Mr.Buyot’s Orgy Observations

#barcampkl was like…

Going back to high school. I come from a coed school, so walking along the hallway today at BarCamp was like going wayyy back when there was no facial hair growing rapidly on my face. You’ll see these people, walking & talking about something, moving from class to class, shouting in the hallways, making sudden appearances & disappearances into the classrooms, making fun of people, jokes flying around, gossips, pushing & stacking the class tables to the corners of the room so that everyone can start dancing in the middle of the class… man… those were the days…

BarCamp Malaysia 2008 photo essay using other people’s photos

This post is way overdue. I’ve been saving this post on my drafts section for months & months. Only today when I rummage through my drafts, I found this unposted. But since we’re building some hype for the next BarCamp KL 2009, let’s take a view of what happened last year. I was unable to attend BarCamp JB 2008, so I won’t know how to relate or show the experience gathered from there. Enjoys!

Packing goodie bags with @tekong of Flavert Media Lab. If you need some Flash work done, this is the guy you have to meet!

Roni, tu barang baik tu…

Buy water from the mamak stall below. Empower domestic economy!

The schedule wall.

I missed this session. I was late!

Here’s my session at BarCamp Malaysia. Thanks to all who has made their attendance.

I was nervous like hell. Sweating. Late. Scared. I just wished for some good luck. The last presentation I made in person was for the Minister of Entrepreneur & Cooperative Development & his cabinet team. And that was like 3 years ago!

People listening. I’m surprised!

“Ok, tengok ni. Nampak semut – semut bekeliaran?”

More people listening. Tengok ape tu bang?

I was ready to cast a “jampi” to Khai Lee. Ooooooommmmm….

And people was still listening…

ar.zu.my teaching us some Criss Angel magic tricks! Put your left hand here & put your right hand there… and you shake it all about!!!

Sedap tak bang? Sedaaaaaapp giler!!!

Cheryl Goh was the winner for the Nokia phone. Kamal: “jual kat i bleh?” Cheryl: “let me be a werewolf first!”

This is bad. Even when I was in DevFest, with almost half of the attendees were Malaysians, I observed that we Malaysians never understood the importance of a garbage bin.

We were waiting for Talat to start hist mathematical magic show.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Free of everything. Huh?

Thank you to Azman Saini for sharing these photos on Flickr. Can’t wait for the next BarCamp!

Oh wait, it’s going to be in Penang & JB! Don’t forget Batam!

Weekend roadtrip: BarCamp Singapore.

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Weird Wild Web — Tags: , , — Mr. Buyot @ 3:58 PM

Hellooooo Singapore! I have just arrived!

The third edition of BarCamp Singapore is now on the loose at Ngee Ann Polytechnic on the 28th February 2009 till 1st March 2009. It’s a two day event, hoping to gather Singapore & South East Asia finest in tech, culture & life. Finest or finesse. Whichever seems appropriate.

BarCamp Singapore 3 related links for more information:

But something is not right here. The crowd is a bit tad, too small. But since I’ve arrived a bit later than usual, I couldn’t observe the morning crowd. But the afternoon crowd is kinda small, to me. I was expecting a high turnout of people, especially students, since this event was held in a higher education institution. Maybe, they could have made the students understand the “free culture” movement that has been going on behind their backs. Maybe they just couldn’t be bothered, because when I arrived at Ngee Ann Polytech, I was greeted with a huge banner wishing the students good luck in the coming exams. Maybe, wrong timing.

Although the sessions that has been confirmed seems interesting, but it didn’t interest me. I’m more interested in the 4pm talk on free music publishing and I already missed most the interesting talks this morning. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

By the way, why aren’t you at BarCamp Singapore today? Coming tomorrow?

Monday morning manity

What a better way to start your Monday morning with a little bit of vanity check? Fired up Google Blog search & typed out my online moniker and I found one interesting blog post that I’d like to share. And it’s about BarCamp Malaysia, of course.

Music to my ears

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Weird Wild Web — Tags: , — Mr. Buyot @ 7:15 PM

BarCamp was definitely a success today. Although I, *cough*, hardly was in any of the sessions (except for mine), it was really good to see a place full of testosterone, sprinkled with a lil bit of pheromones on top, exchanging ideas & most importantly, socialising with each other. And it’s all geeks! Basically…

I’d like to thank the audience, who came for my session & manage to survive listening to me talking & talking & talking about how we can bend the rules of the game in the music industry. It was really super fun & relief being able to share some of my personal experiences in music & the conclusions that I make from my observations. Music is my passion, although I’m unable to play any kind of instrument. But I can sing ;)

I hope that I got my point through. We, can really make a difference.

We can believe in

Buyot, We can believe in

“Mana kau menghilang Naz?”

I’m superbly busy & occupied with work-related projects. Honestly, I don’t really have time to explain about my “missing in action”… action. I’m very close to my limit. A demanding job, extra classes, freelance projects (things are getting expensive you know!), family business & commitment… ungh!

However, I’m still going forward with my presentation @ Barcamp Malaysia, which also, in a big way, is consuming a large portion of my time. I don’t plan to have a typical 1-to-1 presentation. Come to think about it, it’s more of an in depth & insight session with case studies I’ve compiled, researched & stumbled upon for the past 9++ years as a web developer & designer.

I will be back on the grid soon and I can’t wait for my vacation in August.  1 week of doing nothing but travel.

Peace. Oh, this is where you can put your name on Obama’s campaign poster. Believe in yourself.

BarCamp Malaysia

Filed under: Weird Wild Web — Tags: , — Mr. Buyot @ 4:29 AM

The first Malaysia BarCamp, a jamboree for geeks & creatives, is (tentatively) going to be held on from the 26th – 27th July 2008. Location: Createive Incubator Centre, Plaza KL Sentral. BarCamp is mainly for geeks & creative people alike to unconference themselves with each other. It’s a global jamboree for geeks. I remember the Scouts has something similar like Jamboree-On-The-Air or JOTA. Rides on the same concept. Unconference.

Oddly enough, it looks like my big mouth is up for it. I’ve proposed a product pitch/demo session for BarCamp. Now I need to figure out how to do this.
