It’s time of that year again and BarCamp KL has returned. Happening on the 24th – 25th of April 2010, BarCamp Malaysia KL edition brings together different, interesting people from a variety of background. And everyone is around for the love of knowledge sharing. If you’d like to see TRUE knowledge sharing in action, BarCamp KL 2010 is the place to be. It’s about being open and from what I’ve seen, it’s about being yourself.
Now, the idea of taking back BarCamp KL is more like a call to take action. Every time, and I include myself in this situational example, I see developers struggle. But as change happens, these recharged developers (and I must include the *preneurs type of people. the good ones) decide to take action on their own to stir things up. Change the way they work, change the way they communicate, change the way they live their life. Best part: helping other people change as best as they can. And I see that happen with every Barcamps I’ve been in the past so far in Southeast Asia. It’s amazing. These people actually changed for the better of themselves. While some may come with a pre-thought agenda, but my examples are more towards the people who just love what they do. Even if it’s for nothing for no reason.
Barcamps have that effect on people. Especially the people who are really into it. And most importantly, the people who leaves every Barcamp with that note of inspiration in mind. The amount of knowledge & thoughts being shared & torrented to each other in a Barcamp is amazing. And if you look at the actual trend of Barcamps, it has always been about creativity, technology & lifestyle all mashed up together. But lately in Malaysia, it kind of died after the 1st one. From my observations, it kind of got a little bit strayed from the path where it should be.
Where is the right path? I have no idea. But I know where it was before. It just doesn’t have the right fire anymore. Maybe it’s because the real Al Kapitan is taking a break. Maybe it’s because the increasing amount of “how to become rich” & “how to become good at marketing” kind of talks is getting on my nerves. I’m guilty with my 1st Barcamp talk on music which technically was a marketing type of talk. But I was mashing up technology, business, musicĀ & lifestyle concepts all together in one talk for one purpose with a different perspective. Maybe it’s because the quality of the talks was getting a bit sloppy. Maybe it was low on geek juice.
Maybe no one was inspired.
God knows where it was going to go. But I do know that I can help stir things up. I know I can do at my own capacity to help change the situational example that is happening right now. I know I can share something with everyone. Small things, big things. Anything.
I hope with what I’ve done, it will inspire others to do the same. With the knowledge I have shared, it will help and bring change. Size doesn’t matter.
This is what taking back BarCamp KL is about. This is how I feel about it. Taking it back is how I do for it to change. Hopefully.
What will you do?
