Today, I’m going to lecture you about losing weight. And we geeks need to keep in shape. A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind. Oddly enough, after 6 months of undergoing a major weight loss training, I find that quote alarmingly true. Very true. Listen geeks: We need to keep in shape if we want to rule the world!
Muahahahahahahahahahahahahaha… (with a thumbdrive at the edge of my mouth. No, not my pinky. But my pinky thumbdrive. Muahahahaha…)
I’m actually too lazy to write a long post, naturally because it’s a lazy Sunday.
Ok, here’s the scenario: In January 2009, I clocked almost 95 kg and was about to buy a size 40 pants. That’s massively overweight for a person my size. Now, in June 2009, I’m 75 78 kg and size 34.
Say what?
Reduce carbonated drinks consumption to 99%.
No Coke. No Sprite. No F&N Grapes. I know most geeks (including myself) have a sweet tooth, constantly consuming sweets (chocolates in my case) to fuel those nights away. And also for the sugar rush. Brrrrrrrrr. But seriously guys, a lot sweets can lead to more complicated health & weight problems. When I quit drinking soda in January, I was really looking high & low for a replacement. Instead of more sweets, I bought watermelons, which is my favorite fruit. And I end up buying 1/2 of a melon every week for 4 – 5 bucks. So, let say in an average week, you buy at least 1 can of Coke per day. That makes about 7 cans per week, which adds up to 14 bucks/week. Yea, it’s about 2 bucks a pop here. I swapped Coke for watermelons and I saved 10 bucks per week plus a lot of future problems. Win!
And one more thing, you will notice that you are a lot more fresh, awake, more alert, after a few months off the Coke. I do have better sleep now, although once in a while I put myself into my “batcave”, I still feel fresh with little sleep. A lot difference I tell you.
Coke should start making fitness videos.
Tune your self into a weekly routine of exercise.
I am a sports kinda guy. Although I don’t look like it, but time and time again, I have proven to be quite an athlete. I can’t run a 100m sprint under 9 seconds, but I can definitely do sports. For most people, you know I am all round action sports athlete. Action sports, meaning extreme sports, like aggressive inline skating. Or rollerblading. I rollerblade. I have played football for school & club teams, badminton for fun, mountain biking before I met rollerblading, I jog almost every morning when I travel to places; I’m pretty much a sports jock. I just don’t look like it.
But I quit doing all that. Meaning, I quit having these sport activities as a routine since 5 – 6 years ago. This is because of a lot of family & personal problems happening at the time, I just didn’t give a fuck about myself. But because of that, I lost my flexibility, my agility and most importantly, i lost that “active” feeling. And when I got it back, I told myself I ain’t ever letting that feeling go ever again.
Originally, I thought I wanted to start back skating every week on a regular basis. Not weekend regular, but almost daily regular basis. It didn’t work that well. So, I figured I need have an addon. A Firefox plugin or something. And I found a Celebrity Fitness “plugin” instead. And I tell you, it’s worth spending some money (mine was approximately about 170 bucks/month) for a gym membership & addon to yourself with those extra exercises & fitness routine. I feel better, I look better (not much belly left) and I skate better. I skate better. I CAN SKATE BETTER NOW!
And that’s worth every penny.
Don’t let anyone fool you into a gym membership if you’re not ready for it to use it, young Padawan.
Stop listening to people.
Seriously, in order to do this, you’ve got to commit to yourself. If you’re a commitment freak, than you’re in trouble. Stop listening to other people, telling you how to lose weight, including myself. Haha. Seriously, you’ve got to listen to yourself, start exploring and learn how to control yourself. People will dilute your thoughts with their thoughts. But it’s up to you to hold that glass of champagne and raise it high above the crowd in front of you. I have discovered that by reducing soda drinks, regular exercise and a well balanced healthy diet, I now lead a healthier lifestyle. No matter how fucked up I am in the brain, my body isĀ in good, working condition. That’s important.
The conclusion is: be more active. Be more lively. Do what you do to be happy. In this case, staying healthy can make you happy. Honest.
