Weekend roadtrip: BarCamp Singapore.

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Weird Wild Web — Tags: , , — Mr. Buyot @ 3:58 PM

Hellooooo Singapore! I have just arrived!

The third edition of BarCamp Singapore is now on the loose at Ngee Ann Polytechnic on the 28th February 2009 till 1st March 2009. It’s a two day event, hoping to gather Singapore & South East Asia finest in tech, culture & life. Finest or finesse. Whichever seems appropriate.

But something is not right here. The crowd is a bit tad, too small. But since I’ve arrived a bit later than usual, I couldn’t observe the morning crowd. But the afternoon crowd is kinda small, to me. I was expecting a high turnout of people, especially students, since this event was held in a higher education institution. Maybe, they could have made the students understand the “free culture” movement that has been going on behind their backs. Maybe they just couldn’t be bothered, because when I arrived at Ngee Ann Polytech, I was greeted with a huge banner wishing the students good luck in the coming exams. Maybe, wrong timing.

Although the sessions that has been confirmed seems interesting, but it didn’t interest me. I’m more interested in the 4pm talk on free music publishing and I already missed most the interesting talks this morning. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

By the way, why aren’t you at BarCamp Singapore today? Coming tomorrow?

This week on nuGrooveTV

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Weird Wild Web — Mr. Buyot @ 11:59 AM

It’s has been a slow, entertainment flow. Can’t blame anyone but myself for it. I was distracted. But, that doesn’t mean there’s no love coming from nuGrooveTV.com. Planned launch date for nuGrooveTV.com using the d6y4t version of Drupal that I’ve been developing is coming near. At this moment, it has the basic features down, though minimal, but how I want to start with. As in any software development, progress can only happen when you continously tinker with it. Software is never, has never been and will never be perfect.

Also in the works is a new website from yours truly. Why another website? It’s another channel for me to complain about Internet technologies, in general & how it affects our lives & how it can be adapted for us Malaysians. There’s so many examples out there that focused too much “this is how they do it” or “this is how Google does it” but hardly (rarely)  any relevant examples out there that emphasize on implementation that can be done in our own soil. Too much looking west (or east) will make you forget to look – here. The new website will also be an avenue for me as a practice ground for a book I’m writing. 11 years in the Web has taught me a lot, and coupled with my experiences working directly under several government ministries & agencies when I was abit 5 – 7 years younger, the book will give an outlook on Web development & the Malaysian culture that revolves around it. Oh wait, am I talking about another book? But trust me, this book will be not more than 25 pages. Haha :)

No, my book is not about Web culture & the crazy theories that circles around it. It’s about how I spent 12 years of my life teaching myself CSS, xHTML, PHP, Drupal, CakePHP, CodeIgniter, Perl, UX design, UI design, information architecture, Linux, Gentoo, BSD and so many more. I never had the opportunity to educate myself under a proper roof, so, writing this book I hope I can help motivate the geek guys & girls out there that it is possible to make it out on your own with your own terms. You will read about the hard knocks of life that I went thru to get to this point, from my very young involvement in entrepreneurship (i’ve had a laundry pickup business, setting up food stalls, my current side businesses and also my family business) to how I decided to just get a job. There will also be some stuff talking about related experiences from my family businesses, on how a family business can help you learn & develop character, in a way. I just hope I can write a well done story. Coming soon.

From the movie, “The Rocker“.

How can it be

Filed under: Me, Myself & Eureka — Mr. Buyot @ 2:19 PM

How can it be that two of the greatest friends in the world can go from being each other’s everything, to absolutely nothing?

Look at where we are now.

I’d rather…

Filed under: Me, Myself & Eureka — Mr. Buyot @ 1:44 PM

I thought sometime alone was what we really needed. You said this time would hurt more than it helps, but I couldn’t see that. I thought it was the end of a beautiful story and so I left the one I loved at home to be alone… alone… and I tried to find out if this one thing is true…

I’d rather have bad times with you than good times with someone else. I’d rather be beside you in a storm than safe and warm by myself. I’d rather have hard times together than to have it easy apart…

And then I met someone and thought she could replace you. We wasted time because she was not you. We had a lot of fun even though we knew we were faking it. Love was not impressed with our connection built on lies, silly lily lies. So I’m right here because I found this one thing is true…

I can’t blame you if you turn away from me, like I’ve done to you. I can only prove the things I say with time. I’d rather have the one who holds my heart… and you know it…

All these thinking about personal life has got me into a distraught position. Posting eternally personal thoughts has become a boon. Writing them down (or more correct, doodled) in my scrapbooks will be the new way to get it all out. I guess, I need to get back in shape…

Chicken, a short film by Da Huang Pictures

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Weird Wild Web — Mr. Buyot @ 7:10 PM

This is quite disturbing. According to the director, this short film was shot at a Malay Muslim (I like the way he emphasis “Malay Muslim”, yes dude, that’s the right way!) slaughter house. Now, as far as I know & learned from my former religious teacher, when a Muslim slaughter an animal for food, the moment the neck line is being cut opened, you have to let the blood flow out from the animal. But from this video, you can see and safely assume that right after the neckline is being cut, the workers straight away threw those chickens into a pot of boiling and still boiling of water. I wonder if this is the right way to do it in Islam. I really wonder.

She’s cute, she’s melts my heart. She’s Yoona of the Girl’s Generation group from Korea. This is all my colleague’s fault. He tempted me into the dark side. *Fooooh*
