There goes a Ruffneck…

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Family, Friends & Food! — Tags: , — Mr. Buyot @ 11:28 PM

iQ, we will surely miss you bro. I just didn’t expect our supposed gathering would be on your funeral day man. It was just the other day when all of us were commenting on the photo we took together at David’s old house in Bangsar. And Bruce Lee. Haha. It was just yesterday, dude…

The Ruffneck clique is here to stay & be well for you bro. Al Fatihah, rest in peace.

Firdhaus Othman, 1984 – 2008.

Update: Here are some links to reports about the accident involving iQ. Shree also made a tribute remix of the last song recorded together with iQ.

Facebook’s security check

Filed under: Weird Wild Web — Tags: , , — Mr. Buyot @ 4:39 PM

I’ve never encountered this before, but it’s kinda cool though. Facebook recently pops up a captcha box when I updated my status & found out that they send a confirmation code via SMS using the 32665 shortcode. I wonder who? Cool effort though. Reduces fake profiles & making it safer for fellow Facebooks member. Besides, who doesn’t own a mobile phone nowadays?

Fair enough.

The Malaysian Fatwa made a fair enough ruling. It’s fair enough. From a Muslim point of view, it does makes sense for us Muslims. A combo of three. The power of three.

The National Fatwa council has declared that the yoga practice which involves three elements of physical movements, worshipping and chanting as haram…

As long as there’s three. Because if a person performs yoga without chanting & worshipping, it’s merely exercise for them. I agree with the fact that from one behaviour, it will lead to another. It’s human nature. But I also believe we have self control.

Fair enough. Thank God.

Revision 100

I’m about to reach another milestone in my current work. A beta release will be out in a not so far future, after months & months of iteration. It won’t be a big deal for most people, but for me, it has been a journey & experience to whip out something from scratch. Well, almost… Hehe.

I’ve always been a Drupal developer since Drupal 4, but having been working on so many different PHP development frameworks over the years, I’ve learned that Drupal has always been the most suitable partner for me in web development. Wordpress is cool, but not for many things. CakePHP is delicious, but it’s going to take awhile for me to properly digest the M-V-C. And Textpattern is simply beautiful.

I’ve always been the procedural type of developer (think C++), but hey, learning ain’t easy but it’s always fun!

As a self taught web artist & developer, I’ve (maybe, maybe not) mastered the true arts of CSS ever since the first time I’ve glished (is there such a word?) my eyes on the meyerweb in 2001 & succumbed into the power of Zeld. One thing weird though, lately I’ve been guiding my coworkers on the force and I never thought that what I’ve learned while skipping classes & hanging out at the computer lab in college would be useful & actually teaching it to other people.

In fact, the job I have right now was totally based on skill, because if I compare myself with my colleagues, I’m a lot less academically than they are. And honestly, they are great & good people and has been & will always be a pleasure working with them, although I’m the oldest (in age) in the development team. Plus, I’ve been having working on weird & unbelieveable jobs after I graduated high school, and this has been the best for me, so far.

Right now, I’m on my way to (hopefully) absorb & understand the awesomeness of Drupal, telling myself to make the best out of what I have & hoping to share with the world with what I’ve learned.

I’m also about to tread on another path: agriculture. Going to grow me some vegetables & fruits!

Aizat & the FOSS.my dudes has infected me with the “awesomeness” bug. Spray spray! New buzzword please! Haha!

Lady luck, don’t leave me yet :)

Aku sedih melihat orang Malaysia kita mudah tertipu

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Me, Myself & Eureka — Mr. Buyot @ 1:41 PM

Let’s face it, we Malaysian Malays are easily fooled. We want to be the tuan, but we fall for tricks. Simple, scientifically proven tricks.

Take for example, trick no.1.

Now, let’s go for trick no.2. And to make it more sensational, apparently, this person has raked in millions of ringgit. Let’s watch.

Part 1

Part 2

Now, what saddens me the most is that we, and I like to say in general for all races in Malaysia, be it Malay, Indians, Chinese & others, are easily fooled by anything that is out of this world. Yes, I do believe in the spirits & jin, not because it’s a requirement in my religion, but also a truth that I have experienced myself personally. But, what I don’t believe is that nothing in this world can’t be explained. There’s always a truth behind everything. The only thing we need to do, is to look for it, investigate & understand.

I have no intention in humiliating people, but I have every intention to seek the truth & share it with the world. Isn’t that what freedom is?

Thank you to the person who provided me with the YouTube videos & also to the person who made me remember a trick I used to learn in first aid training.

Discounts for night riders

Filed under: Colors Of Muhibbah, Weird Wild Web — Mr. Buyot @ 3:49 PM

This is going to backfire. Maybe, there will be an increase of accidents occuring at night. Why? Because we dumb Malaysians will opt to drive at night just because it’s cheaper to do so. And it’s not that cheap, just an average difference of RM2.00 – RM5.00. But knowing us, RM5.00 cheaper is better than nothing.

Off peak discounts? Come on guys, you’re not in the telecommunication business. You’re in the infrastructure business. It’s 2 different businesses providing 2 different services & benefits and runs on 2 different business models & gives out 2 different implications (cause & effect) to the public. Sigh. I wonder who is the master planner.

And they say their profits went down by 15.5%. Look guys, the rakyat opts not to use your expressways because it’s expensive. Making matters worse, to travel by flight is a way cheaper & better option for us now. We rather not use your bad surfaced highways & extremely high toll prices to travel.

And I wonder, what happen to the toll collections. Bought a new Mercedes lately? Or was it a Z4?

Maybe companies should start implementing night shifts for those who loves the owl. And companies should encourage virtual workplaces. It’s not difficult to control nowadays. Then again, we Asians are masters of procastination & “fucking up the benefits”.

Don’t they have anything else to do other than making a show for themselves?

The latest hot news hitting Malaysian Muslims is the comment made by a certain professor to say that yoga is bad for Muslims. Hmm, this is an interesting opinion but as always, it comes with a backlash that will hit him hard for saying something like that. Let’s put it this way: if he plans to “haram” everything by principle, then A LOT of things & activities in Malaysia should be “haram” if we go by his point of view. And I’d like to point out a few.

Did you know that the Malay Malaysian culture mimics the Hindu culture? Ask a historian, they will happily give you a long list of Malay cultural activities that adopts directly & indirectly from the Hindu culture. Especially the wedding ceremonies part like “merenjis air tawar”, “hantaran”, dances & also the so-called traditional music. Why don’t he, the professor, comment about these? These culture activities can also deviate a Muslim’s way of life. Especially when it comes to a wedding. I’ve known a Muslim who was burdened with debts & has to resort to criminal activities just to satisfy the Malay society’s point of view, just because he wants to get married.

Did you know that participating in SMS votes for Islamic related TV shows is a form of gambling? This SMS activity can also make a Muslim to be obsessed with TV shows that can also deviate the person away from performing their daily prayers. Can the professor make a comment?

Why don’t you ban deviated tabligh groups? These people really does affect the akidah of a Muslim. Although they’ve banned several deviated religious groups, but as far as I know, there’s a lot more out there!

Why don’t you ban TV? It’s the BIGGEST & the most INFLUENTIAL element in deviating the Muslim community. Can you give a comment professor?

As I said before, if you want to make everything “haram” in principal, then make sure you do it properly & apply on everything there is in Malaysia.

Yoga bad for Muslims & deviates them from being a Muslim? Seriously professor, it’s a joke.

My bet is that maybe, just maybe the professor has children that practices yoga & just because he personally doesn’t like what he sees & just because he is in a position to make a public statement, he does so in order to make his point to his kids. What a typical Malay attitude. Lame.

Abantu? I need to learn, abantu?

Google App Engine SDK repackaged.

Filed under: Poetic Code, Weird Wild Web — Tags: , — Mr. Buyot @ 2:37 PM

I think I need to “go live” my other website, which mainly deals & talks about web solutions, open source & stuff like that. But since this is my personal site, oh what the hell.

Google App Engine is cool. Having your application live in the house of Google is way cooler. Should be a -5 degrees weather. Having downloaded the SDK & use it to build some “maybe interesting” apps, I decided to repackage it to a all-in-one ZIP file.

What’s in it? The application server, latest documentation, latest application samples & a script that I created to have a quick & dirty way to start the application server. It’s not perfect, but if you have any idea to make it better, feel free to check-it-out from the repository. If you don’t want to, you can submit a patch. I shall thank you with an ice cream treat. And the script only works for *nix systems. I hardly use windoze anymore, but maybe one day a VBScript version will surface, someday.

I’m still having some trouble to package it for Ubuntu, still learning the hard way. Never mind, I think I should be able to release a .deb package anytime soon.
