We are all squatters

Before I get into physical fights, allow me to clarify my earlier post regarding racism. Yes, I am a Malay ultra, if you want to put it that way. Priority will be for the Malays, regardless of whether you are Malay Muslim, Malay Christian or Malay Buddhist. Yes dear, there are people who are Malays but with Christian faith. But why am I fight for people who doesn’t appreciate me & my family, especially my father? It’s because I know the Malay culture & ways better than my grandmother. My grandmother is a Chinese in a Malay Muslim family in Bagan Datoh, Perak. I am, by definition, a Malay-Chinese blooded human being. My very distant Chinese cousins are in Singapore & Perak. I’m also a descendant of Melayu Banjar, a subset of Malays from Kalimantan. Only my mom’s side comes from a pure Malay heritage. Maybe I need to do more research about that soon.

But my point is this: if you want to label me as racist, go ahead. I will not deny that I do sometimes crack jokes with racial sentiments, but that doesn’t make me not sensitive to their feelings. I will not deny that I do at times use racial referred words like “macha”, “dei”, “apek”, “ah lian”, “itu orang cina”, “tak guna punya melayu” in my conversations. But that does not make me not sensitive to their feelings. I would be hurt too if someone says something bad about my heritage.

Malaysia 50 + 1 years

Malaysians in particular love to define what makes them Malaysian & what makes Malaysia truly Asia. 50 + 1 Malaysia, is a quirky interesting Malaysian lifestyle book authored by QuaChee, a local blogger for the world wide web. He tell stories about Malaysia, divided into 7 chapters with topics about the local lingo, when to scream “alamak! bau weh! tingkap tingkap!” after a durian session, how to order a teh tarik kaw at a mamak, which makcik nasi lemak ayam is the best & many more interesting things about Malaysia that a typical Malaysian might not have known. It’s our very own Lonely Planet book, but it’s about our kampunglah!

If you’re Malaysian, you might want to grab this book & discover Malaysia. Gempak beb.

State of unrestful manner

“Iyalah, siapa pun mendapat kerusi lebih, jadi mereka berasa hebat. Biasalah itu. Macam dalam BN, Umno kerusi terbanyak.”

Mat Sabu, MalaysiaKini.com

That is the problem with politics. Uncontrollable dominance & power. Furthermore, all this talk about undemocratic ways of Anwar toppling the government. From my point of view, after reading people’s view on the Web and also randomly talking to people who I hardly knew & listening to them, the rakyat fear of Anwar’s raging hormones. They supported him, but they fear of the monster that he could be if he decides to turn the page & let the monster surface.

But dear rakyat, wasn’t it was you who elected this person and his cronies? What, you’d think cronies is a word specially reserved for the government?

I have a theory about Anwar’s recent sodomy case. We already know the story from the real facts available, but let’s just view this scenario with a different perspective.

Do not leave your cooker on while you wait for your sahur to cook

It’s less than 2 hours till break fast and I’m already hungry. But that’s not the story here.

The story is: Don’t leave your cooker on while you’re cooking something & you go back to your room & lie down for a while. Yeah right, for a while.

I woke up early for sahur, as usual & was getting ready to cook my Maggi mee goreng special. But I needed to boil the mee first. Put a pot on a cooker, turn on, pour water & voila! I went back to my room & wait. The waiting begins…

And I woke up an hour later. I missed my sahur. And my Maggi mee was overcooked, overdry, everything was over. I’m just lucky it didn’t burn my whole house down. That was really, a foolish mistake.

Sigh. Living alone can be an accidental moment.

Not so funny Seinfeld & Bill Gates 1st commercial

Bill Gates is a funny man. He has his own sense of humor and believe me, I do laugh at his jokes if I get them. Seinfeld is a sarcastically funny man too. I laugh at his jokes & also at him for being spontaneous funny and at the same time, plays innocent. Especially when he does that “It wasn’t me” look.

But making a commercial together could be a bad idea. Honestly, I didn’t get the whole story from this 1st commercial. Unless, they are trying to weave a story step by step, episode by episode. It’s like a webisode for commercials (T-M). Both of them have that geek wisdom & traits. Both of them could have been good friends, and it’s a match. But creating a commercial series based on their friendship… erm… there must be something interesting going on with their lives.

Everyone can definitely fly

I came across this video by accident & I’m touched by it. The video was produced by Yasmin Ahmad for AirAsia. It’s truly a Malaysian outlook in how things should be. We just need to chill and work things out together. We learn together.

Few things I’d like to say about this video.

  • Tony Fernandes is seriously a chill dude.
  • I’d like the part, “We learn together”. Yea, we should try to learn together.
  • Everything is possible. We just need to work it out. Together.
  • Helping people with real problems is must thing to do for any company and person.
  • So far, AirAsia has been a pleasant experience for me.

Lastly, AirAsia is really a cool company, from the looks of the video-lah. Would like to work for them someday.

Pantun “Cari Ganti”

Kota sarat disimpan tempayan,
Zahir berlian disunyi hari,
Harta rakyat dijadikan taruhan,
Akhir kebencian menjadi api.

Gula dan santan diuli roti,
Kelapa diparut dimakan sama,
Bila kebencian menjadi api,
Apa dihasut ditelan semua.

Anak singa di Pulau Terberau,
Anak tebuan seekor lari,
Jika negara sudah kacau,
Eloklah tuan mengundur diri.

Pergilah mandi di Titi Tinggi,
Jalan tersepak tali pencuci,
Carilah ganti berbudi tinggi,
Bukan perompak ganti pencuri.

Water for all

Despite our local heavyweights figthing with each other, claiming the throne of Malaysia, we seem to forget that we are just lucky motherfuckers who are born in & citizen of Malaysia. Everyday, I listened to different people, different views, different dissappointments, but none of them, sadly even coming from my own friends, has expressed gratitude to what they already have. It’s like they are not bersyukur to what they already have and would like to have some more, stuff. This is not enough. That is not enough. That should be that way. This should be that way. Who’s the real greedy Malaysian now?

Bersyukur. Be thankful.

Hardly anyone, even the younger Malaysian generation nowadays have this attitude embodied in them. In them, it is just not enough. And to some people, when they don’t have it, they make do with whatever they can & make the best out of it. But when we forget where we came from & when we forget our roots, we become blinded by our own sense of goodness or goodwill. We make ourselves believe that we are doing good, whereas we seem to forget that not everybody is like us & not everyone is as fortunate, like us.

Charity Water. Started out by Scott Harrison, he decided to look elsewhere to satisfy his inner human being, being a fortunate New Yorker. He left city life & hopped over to Africa. His mission: to discover that next gig that will satisfy his inner human hunger. And he found one: to provide clean water to hardcore villages in Africa.

The cool thing about his method of fund raising is that he asks for donations using his age as the amount. And since this year he’ll turn 33 years old, the amount is USD$33 dollars. And the best part of it, he calls upon September babies to come & join & support his endeavour. This year’s target is to raise USD$1.5 million dollars. This sounds like a social fun fund raising. Ungh, yet another social thing.

This year will be the 2nd year running for Charity Water & the mission is bigger. Discover what makes you human.
