The never ending Avril story

Quoted from MalaysiaKini today. Now, I’m going to write in Malay…

Akibatnya? Renungilah sendiri…

Kita harus mendidik, bukan mengherdik. Mengherdik pun dah kira berdosa tau. Dosa fitnah kecil.

Betul tak Ustaz?

Malaysian Malay & Indonesian Malay. 90:10.

No, the title above does refer to any books or pages or inscriptions. It’s actually Karyawan’s proposed ratio for Malay language songs radio airtime. What do you think?

IT’S RIDICULOUS!

I oppose such proposal. That will kill competition. And killing competition kills innovation. Killing innovation kills progression. How do you expect local Malaysian Malay songs to succeed when:

  1. Music composition, lyrics, beat, rhythm, etc – SUCKS!
  2. Record companies takes a huge bite of the pie. Solve this problem first, then you will solve the basic economic problems faced by all artists.
  3. Educate these artists to use more of their brains! You, as an artist, are already gifted with the gift of talent. Use that talent & your brains to the fullest.
  4. Indonesian artists are more talented, more focused in their music. And they were clever. They realised that they couldn’t grow anymore in Indonesia, so they decided to venture out. So, why can’t we venture out & discover new opportunities? In short: PEMALAS!
  5. They, the Indonesian, simply just produce better songs than us Malaysians. If we say we can be better, than walk the talk.

And I quote,

“Kami berharap agar ia dapat dikuatkuasakan sebagai salah satu akta atau undang-undang dalam bidang penyiaran di negara kita,” katanya pada Mesyuarat Khas Karyawan…

Wow. Sounds like a minister proposing a New Economic Policy for the music business. And this 90/10 ratio sounds very similar to the real N.E.P itself. It’s sounds like you’re afraid of competition, Karyawan.

And I agree with Meet Uncle Hussain’s comment about this new proposed act. It will certainly will make our local artists much more lazy bums as they already are. And this is from my 1st hand experience in the music industry. Not all of them, especially the ones I’ve worked with. They are hardly the pemalas. They just needed some guidance & support.

You, the artist, are suppose to be creative. So, do your business CREATIVELY!

Goddammit. Buat aku tension je.

I mean, come on. We finally have a Malaysian group winning the Gangstarz competition, which maybe was a setup. Don’t get me wrong, One Nation Emcees performed very well in the final competition. Very impressive. But, the other Black Eyed Peas wannabe group from Indonesia, was very impressive too. If I compare vocally, D’Reborn sounds a lot more better. But there’s a lesson to be learn here. If you worked hard enough, you will get your moment to shine. I know i know, sometimes you feel like the moment will never come with all these new competition building up around you.

But hey, that’s life. You need to be survivor, not a follower.

Same, other stuff you can read:

Weightlifting accident @ Beijing 2008 Olympics

Damn. Janos Baranyai of Hungary popped out his elbow. Hope he gets well soon. But no more weightlifting for him. Period.

Update: It seems that they are removing any clips related to this incident, using copyright infringement reasons. Well, all that you have to do is just use this search keyword on YouTube, maybe it can help.

Dear government, please ban these as well.

Please ban the following:

  1. Akademi Nasyid – yea, it’s sing song competition. As I recalled, there was no mention in the Quran that “bless” this kind of entertainment. Yes, their lyrics preached the faith. But have you forgotten the principle of such act? It’s still entertainment. It still makes people want to dance & shake to the rhythm. The judging process. The whole judging process is by SMS, which some say is a form of gambling. So in a way, you’re using religion as a basis to attract more people to send in their SMS votes (a.k.a flushing away their money & more money for the corporations) for the sake of determining which nasyid group is the best. And you do this year after year. That’s gambling in it’s fullest essence, but in a different form. Furthermore, you’re exploiting religion for profit. What do you have to say now?
  2. Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Tommy Hilfiger – These products & brands uses sex as a main symbol for their advertising campaigns. They intend to show people that when people use their products, your sex appeal increases, thus allowing him/her to have more relationships with people, be it sexually or non-sexually. The fact of the matter is, it encourages sex appeal. Hah, SEX. Bad bad word. You should ban this word too. And not too forget, Tommy Hilfiger is a proven racist. You should have not allowed his brand in.
  3. ASTRO, MiTV, TV3 – You should revoke all of their broadcasting licenses. They have cross the border in delivering the most unsuitable kind of entertainment to us Malaysians. Sex, violence, drugs – we Malaysians learn most of these stuff from TV. The government should ban TV. It’s more dangerous than being sexy.
  4. Tarian Mak Yong, etc – These dances must also be ban. The costume they used are too sexy, too tight, even for the comfort of the dancers. They make the dancers look too sexy. Even the dance itself is hypnotising. You should ban this too.
  5. Pesta Flora – you’re basically wasting money with this kind of events. Waste is forbidden in Islam. BAN! BAN! BAN! BAN!
  6. Akademi Fantasia, Mawi, Muzik Muzik, Anugerah ERA, etc – All kinds of entertainment should be ban. The Internet should be ban too!

This is the plea of the rakyat.

Come on you fucking idiots. How do you expect people to understand Islam when every single thing has to banned? Can’t you show guidance, like what has always been repeated over & over again in the Quran? Oh, wait, let me spell it for you:

G – U – I – D – A – N – C – E

I’ve forgotten that you are an educated individual. Too smart for me. Oops. There’s DANCE in that word. BAN!!!

I can assure you that they themselves is fucked up. Just go to Kelantan for instance. Yes, they preach about having a full Islamic ruling. Syukur, I am thankful to God that there exist a state that implement & practice the ways of Islam. They wanted to set an example & it is a good example. But remember there was a time when they were talking about separating checkout counters at supermarkets, separate counters for men & women? That was a fucking joke. I went to Kota Bharu myself to check on this claim, and to my disappointment, they still serve male customers with female cashiers and so forth. I even have pictures to prove my claims. Do you see how hypocrite you really are?

Pathetic.

My point is this: if you want to judge & condemn everything by principle, then everything has been wrong, from the past, future & present. Islam, as I understand & practice in my everyday life & forever, has always been a religion based on faith. And faith itself cannot be forced into anyone. I believe that I will be judged, someday by Him. And I believe the rules that He has set for me.

But what I don’t believe is that Islam has to be forced into anyone. It was based on free will, as He has stated & repeated in the Quran many, many times. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. Kun-faya-kun.
