Malaysian’s IT literacy level = BODOH SOMBONG!

“Do you provide color printing service from a PDF file?”, I asked.

“Yes, we do” says the macha. He calls his IT assistant who is gladly sitting at his desk in the middle of the shop.

I hand over my thumbdrive to the unknown IT guy (let’s call him the IT macha).

“It’s in the webtrends folder. Ah yes, that PDF file.”, I said.

The moment he double-clicked, something was amissed. The Acrobat reader version he’s using is Acrobat Reader 5. The file I wanted to print was made for Acrobat Reader 8 and above. Wait, Acrobat Reader 5 was in the 1990s right? Ok. This is weird for an IT guy to NOT KNOW about the latest Adobe Acrobat reader.

“I’m sorry sir, your file seems to be locked & password protected.” said the IT macha.

“Huh? No it’s not.” I said.

Of course I would know, I created that file!

“Are you sure? Because I noticed that your Acrobat reader is version 5.” I said.

He then attempts to open my PDF file using Illustrator CS2 & Photoshop CS2. Duh! Of course you won’t be able to open my file, it’s because you don’t have the updated Acrobat software, damn it! He then calls for his supervisor. He’s the always cool looking macha guy at the counter. Ok, so maybe I can talk some sense into him or maybe he can understand what I’m trying to say.

The IT macha explains briefly to the cool macha counter dude in their mother tongue about what was happening. I simply said, “My file was made for Acrobat Reader 8 & above. I noticed that you are using Acrobat Reader version 5, which is why you’re unable to open my file.”

“Oh, ok.” said the cool counter guy.

“Maybe all that you need to do is to update your Acrobat Reader to the latest version.” I said.

“Do we need to download that software?” he said.

I noticed that IT macha had an opened Internet Explorer browser with the title “Yahoo! Mail” on his taskbar.

A-hah!

“Of course. You need to download the updated Acrobat software from the Internet.”, I said.

“Oh, then I’m so sorry abang. We can’t help you.”, said the cool counter guy.

At this point, I was already about to explode. I took my thumbdrive & left the shop. I went to another shop and surprise surprise, they’re able to open the file with no problem at all.

Now, if only I can just shove my foot into their stubborn headed brains.
